Scenic Cape Peninsula

Full Day Tour

Take the epic coastal drive down the mountainous Cape Peninsula to the Cape of Good Hope at its tip, following a loop around its west and east coasts, past beaches, through charming local communities, and into a National Park.

Cape Point Lighthouse

Visit the Cape of Good Hope, south westernmost point of the African continent. Then take a short drive to the adjacent headland of Cape Point – or for the more active, take a 45 minute hike up to it if you prefer!

Relive the history and drama of the ancient explorers by visiting the old Cape Point Lighthouse, 250m above the Atlantic Ocean. Take the funicular (tram) up the hill, to reach it – or walk up the path instead. From the top, enjoy views down South Africa’s highest coastal cliffs to the Cape of Good Hope below.

Wildlife & Whales

Keep an eye out for the local wildlife – baboons, ostriches, antelope and the elusive Cape mountain zebra. We may or may not see them, so every sighting is a treat. The migrating southern right whales in spring are an added bonus!

Other Possible Stops

Other possible stops along the way:
It is recommended that you choose one or two.

  • A 45 minute boat trip from Hout Bay harbour to Duiker Island to view the colony of Cape fur seals (fun for kids);
  • A 10 minute walk to the breeding colony of African penguins at Boulders (a highlight for most);
  • The world-renowned Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden nestled on the back slopes of Table Mountain;
  • A winery in the Constantia Wine Valley.

Choosing two will definitely fill the day. Choosing just one will leave more time for taking it slower, making more spontaneous stops, and exploring more local neighbourhoods and / or beaches en route.

Lunch is usually at the Two Oceans Restaurant at Cape Point, where it is most convenient for timing. The focus is on delicious fresh fish and seafood, but there are other good dishes too. The restaurant is in an amazing location with spectacular views of the ocean. See the menu here.

This is the most highly recommended option but if not suitable for any reason, there are a few other possibilities we can discuss.
